School Appeals Information

Where the governors are unable to offer a place because the school is oversubscribed parents have the right to appeal to an independent admissions appeal panel, set up under the school standards and framework Act, 1998, amended by the Education Act, 2002.

The members of the Appeal Panel are totally independent and will not have any connection with either the Council or the school you have applied for. If they decide you have a good case, in certain circumstances, they can give you a place.

Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or within 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.

You'll be sent notification of your appeal hearing along with a copy of the school’s case at least 10 school days in advance of the hearing.

If you wish to submit further evidence which was not included with your initial appeal, you must ensure that we receive it at least 3 working days before the hearing date. Any additional evidence or information received after this date might not be considered at the appeal hearing. The appeal panel will then decide whether it should be considered, taking into account its significance and the effect of a possible need to adjourn the hearing.
