Swimming
The National Curriculum Programme of Study for P.E. sets out the expectation that pupils should be taught to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively
- Perform safely self-rescue in different water based situations
At St Christopher's we start swimming lessons in Year 3 and these continue in Year 4. The aim is to make sure that as many children as possible achieve their national curriculum in swimming by the end of year 4.
Pupils are then given an opportunity in Year 6 to consolidate the skills above to ensure that they can swim at least 25 metres.
2018-19 RESULTS
Year 3: 12% of pupils have achieved 25 metre swimming expectation
Year 4: 60% of pupils have achieved 25 metre swimming expectation
Year 6: 88% of pupils have achieved 25 metre swimming expectation
