Design Technology Curriculum
At St Christopher’s, our design and technology curriculum prepares children for the developing world and encourages them to become curious and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. Throughout each half term, children work through a series of lessons in the order of research, design, make, test and evaluate. Throughout this process children use a broad range of tools and techniques to develop skills which are built on over their years throughout the school. When children leave us they are equipped with skills to take forward into the ever changing world.
At St Christopher’s Design Technology is taught from Reception to Year 6. The following skills are taught in KS1 in our DT curriculum and will progress through the year groups:
• Design purposeful, functional and appealing products
• Select and use a range of equipment
• Select from a wide range of materials and components
• Evaluate and improve their product
The following skills are taught in KS2:
• Using research to develop their designs
• Generate and develop their models through different methods, including digital desin
• Select and use a range of equipment
• Select from a wide range of materials and components
• Evaluate their design and consider the views of others
• Understand how key events and people have helped shape the word
• How to improve their structures to make them stronger
• Use electrical systems in their products
• Apply a computing system to monitor their product
